root of the problem
by mahesh nair on Mar 26, 2007 03:47 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

We are not getting to the root of the problem. One of the person did touch it.

Root of the problem is not the players, coach, selection committee.

It is policy and the media.

Revamp the full policy. Let not politicians enter in. BCCI has been ruled by politicians for years thats why if same situation is carried forward, we will do the same discussion 20 years from now.

My suggestions are:
1) The selection committee should be neutral and should comprise of
a) Two to Three successful CEOs (not entreprenuers)
b) Two people with good cricket knowledge-not cricketers (test across the nation can be conducted and selected every two years)
c) Two senior cricketers

2) The BCCI board should be elected by public.
3) There should be control over advertisements. Players with certain points (calculated every season) can be allowed to advertise. If they fail in matches, their ratings go down and they cant do advertisements.
4) Official Raw Talent Hunt conducted across the country.
5) Pitches to be changed. ( Two pitches matching conditions from each country should be in place and matches to be held frequently). Same can also be placed for practice.
6) Rotation of players
7) Quota system to be removed.
8) Last but not the least-SWAT committee to be comprised of the similar type of people as the selection committee but different set of people so that there is no bias.

I hope if this is implemented, We will be far more superior to any other Test playing nation. Cant 1 billion population produce better players than other countries which has 1/10th of the population?

Same procedure should be implemented for not only cricket but for every sport and I'm sure India will unbeatable in every game we play.

Cheers!!!!

I fully agree.Unfortunately the corrupt politicians of our country would be unwilling to let the power of controlling cricket and its fortunes go out of their hands. Look at the performance of other sporting associations headed by Indian politicians. So, one addition to your proposal would be "No person who is officially affiliated to any National/ Major Regional political party should be allowed to head / have a major post in BCCI"
