Cricket World Cup
by Kumarendra Mallick on Mar 15, 2007 09:31 PM   Permalink

Traditionally in ancient India there were no fights between unequals; a king fought against a king, an army chief against an army chief, and never never against an ordinary soldier. That is understandable and fair enough.
In 2007 edition of cricket world cup some new comers are pitted against very strong teams. That is not fair. For examples, in 1950s and early 1960s speedsters did not bowl against the tailenders in the test cricket. That good tradition is gone with the wind.
If ICC wants early warm-up matches, it should include two best teams from Under-19 world championship and countries like India, Australia should be permitted to send two teams. Imagine cricketers like Md. Kaif, V.V.S. Laxman, Suresh Raina, Powar, Parthiv Patel, Amol Mazumdar, Gautam Gambhir,Wasaim Jaffer, R.P. Singh and a few more equally good bowlers and batsmen can make another strong team ! Hope, ICC considers such an option in the next edition of the World Cup.
