Interesting posts by 'critics' who are self-styled experts of the game. Someone even went to extent of passionately saying Sachin is 'useless', he only plays for 'records', one only remembers some of his 'memorable' innings since they are far a few.....
OK guys, point taken!! Sachin is and 'old fellow' now, he is just made the team due to his 'past records', he will 'bomb' in this tournament.
Ok ok, all said and done, tell me how many batsmen have this kind of record (if you want to talk about records)??!! Also, records are there in every sport; if you look at basketball, people still remember the rate of shooting of Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, etc. Look at Football (soccer if you please), then Pele's goal scoring totals are still recorded, then after a WC we have awards like 'golden boot' etc. Golf, people still have records like most PG tournaments won, how many hole-in-ones. Baseball, people still follow records like max home runs etc.
So whats wrong with making world class records in cricket. And we should be proud of our own son-of-the-soil who has beaten all records that are to be made.

one by one his so called records will go down into dust. Even the most number of runs in ODIs will be broken soon by Michael Clarke or somebody else. No records will survive and cricket is a team game, nobody remembers records of individual players only results that the team achieve are remembered

you tried making a point but still fall short.
Don Bradman is dead and gone, but his records are still there to be beaten. No one is doubting your intepretation of cricket being a team sport, but then so are all the other sports i wrote of! Also if you are a working professional, you will understand that companies or any kind of task has to be measured to be improved upon. One cannot just improved upon any skill, even intangible, if it cannot be measured! A 'record' is nothing but a skill being measured! And while all the 'batting skills' are being measured, Sachin still stands out head and shoulders from the rest of the pack! A bowler like Warne still will remember the 'nightmares' of having to bowl to Sachin viz. the other 'lesser mortal' who face upto him!
So dont belittle 'records'; it is a scientific tool to record progress! And if outstanding individual records can be forgotten, then number of wins of teams also can be forgotten!! If your theory is to be ratified, then forget every thing else, lets just focus on the present; then number of wins of 'teams' also is hogwash! Lets just live for the present and see what happens in WC 2007 before talking about this man!!

Outstanding records are less important in a team sport, because success is measured by wins or tournament successes. I hope you agree on that. How do you conclude Sachin stands heads and shoulders above the rest of packs, maybe in ODIs too his number of runs scored make him head and shoulders, but what about tests? hasnt he underperformed in tests, he could have been so much better in tests ? what exactly happened to him in tests. What is his ICC ranking in test and ODI. Sachin has played well in the past and i remember those sixes off Warne but after 2003(he played well in that too) he is a spent force. Why has his test average fallen to less than 56. Many old(32 ) players are playing so well in tests Mohammed Yousuf,Brian Lara,Ricky Ponting etc why is he so much behind them? lack of motivation, injury has lessend his abilities or what I dont get it.

dude..icc ranking doesn't take into consideration the breaks a player takes. Last 3 years sachin was out of action for atleast over a year....i am afraid icc ranking is not the best yard stick especially when a player is away in an injury layoff..
and lets forget about the tests for a moment..for its world cup time now...where you yourself have relented Sachin is head and shoulders above others...

also let me give you an example why individual records..becoming here.. etc matters..
In the carrebean if cricket still exists it is only becasue of Brian Lara... ...let me know if you dont get the point...
similary in india many yougsters perhaps took bat in their hands only becasue of Sachin...some of these youngsters may make it to the big league later...i hope that is making sense? so it isn't all that a bad prospect if someone is worshipped or treated as a demi god...it can help ..
try to look at things from all perspectives... and yeah all his records are going to go to dust at some point...and why not...
and last but not the least, dont records help team at all??? when sachin scores 100 "for himself", do those runs go to some of private swiss account of his or something? do those dont help in the cause of adding runs to the team totals and helping wins ??? SO IN SHORT DONT RECORDS HELP TEAMS WIN or get closer to win? Now dont give me that shit ..start with his innings are not match winning...etc

like I said before, try spending 15yrs of being the no 1 bat, then we will talk....even if this rate of scoring is not as 'good' as of yore, he is still a better bat than what is being dished out today!!
Even today when he takes guard, the bowler (whoever it is), will always wonder what to expect from Sachin's blade....
So chill mate and lets get more fervour in wishing our team and our players the very best!!

By the way, team records are also meant to be broken. Records are meant to be broken, whether they are individual or team efforts.
