Though there have been sane voices in this msg board already who have understood the schedule, this one- line clarification could help those who haven't :
no matter which two teams qualify from each group, the higher ranked team in the ICC pre-tournament seedings will be 1 and the other team will be 2 . for eg. whoever qualifies from grp B, the higher ranked side will be B1 and the other will be B2, ok? all that is needed is for the teams to qualify ; that is the sole purpose of the grp matches, not to decide positions. so just sit back and hope that the minnows don't cause an upset (esp. in grp B !!)

It seems that u have not understood yet ashwin, if bermuda qualifies instead of lanka, then bermuda will be 1 and india will be 2. even though india has a higher ranking.
If the top 2 ranked teams finish @ the top then then irrespective of who is on top the they will be seeded according to their ranks.
If there is an upset and one non top 2 team qualifies then it will take the place of the top team that failed to qualify, as in the bermuda example.
if there is a double upset then the two qualifying teams will be again seeded according to the rankings.
for eg if india and lanka qualify then india is 2 and lanka 1 if india and bermuda qualify then bermuda is 1 and india 2 if india and bangladesh qualify then bangladesh is 1 and india 2 if lanka and bermuda qualify then bermuda is 2 and lanka 1 if lanka and bangladesh qualify then bangladesh is 2 and lanka 1 if bermuda and bangladesh qualify then bangladesh is 1 and bermuda 2
