Vengsarkar lacks clarity
by Satish on Feb 27, 2007 12:23 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Vengsarkar might have been an average player when he was at his peak. He lacks knowledge, skill, and talent to be a selector. But for him, Pathan, Sehwag, and Tendulkar wouldn't have found any place even in a gully match. This is Vengsarkar's arrogance.

Yes...you are very true....Tendulkar cannot find a spot in any gully team.....In fact he has scored 41 ODI centuries, nearly 15,000 ODI runs and got over 50 man-of-the-match awards for playing tennis-ball cricket inside his home compound. And yes....Tendulkar is regarded as the best batsmen EVER after Bradman only because he doesnt know how to play cricket....

Poor Vengsarkar has no chance in your book. After all 17 centuries against some of the most ferocious attacks, with being called the Colonel for his exquisite batting, only comes from being dropped from gully cricket.

Just a question for you Satish? Have you even played club cicket yourself?? Please dont slay your heroes because you could never be one yourself.

You really lack cricketing knowledge satish...vengsarkar was a average player and that too at his peak??? well lemme tell u something, he was the best batsman in the world for such long time by ICC rating and he has faced west indian bowlers at their peak.... and coming back to bringing kapil to selectors role... we all remember what his performance was when he was indian team coach and we all know how he tried to manipulate Srinath's career by even annoncing srinaths's retirement.... get ur facts straight

Also i dont understand why should Vendsarkar "favour" Sehwag, Pathan?
Infact Vengsarkar already had had quite a few strong words for Pathan.
Its a well know thing and Sehwag its open secrect who has got him in, non other than our captain.

Having said that i still think amongs the possible options this is the best team.

Whenever a team has anounced there have always been some criticisms from ex-crickets etc.
This time around there have hardly been any criticisms from these guys which suggest the people who know the game seem satisfied...
So i dont think Vengsarkar and company have done a bad job at all.
Agreed sehwag is totally out of form, but if he fires, its almost game over for opposintion..alos he can bowl..and fill up 4-5 crucial overs.
Regarding Pathan we are taking a risk, considering his form. But he has got the class and potential, form is something which is temporaray. If he happens to strike form he will play a very crucial role in team's balance and success considering he is more than handy with bat.

Well I think pathan really needed for in indian team specially for our Word cup in west endies.

Reasons :
Remember pathan is midium pace bowler, Go back to history in westendies's pitch all midium pace bowler get success.

All the pitches are slow so We really need midium pace bowler.

All left handed batsman has more success in westindies other then right handed batsman.

So Based on history and comparing to west endies pitches Pathan must be in indian team from first match against Natherland.

Yes, Satish. You are right. Vengsarkar was only
an average player when he was at peak. The rest
of the world made a mistake and ranked him the
best batsman in the world for a while.

Please get a grip, buddy!

Vengsarkar, an average player?!!I wonder how long Mr. Satish has been following cricket. For me, it's over 30 years since I've followed the game. It doesn't describe a man who had to curb his attacking instincts for the sake of the team and who was ranked among the best in the world, at a time when the Indian team still had Gavaskar and Vishwanath. Somebody who hit the likes of Bedi and Prasanna in their prime out of the ground to evoke memories of Col. CK Nyadu (now, don't ask who he is!-that would totally expose you)and earn the nickname The Colonel. One of the most stylish batsmen of his generation who could hit with power as well as play the delicate strokes. 116 tests with nearly 7000 runs with an average of 42...17 hundreds...one of the finest catchers in the slips...if he's average, then there would be many Indians who would want to be as "average" as him!!

If Vengsarkar's 7000 plus runs, an average 40 plus, and 17 hundreds could not stop him from inducting non performing players in the team, we need a better talent to select the Indian team. May be we need someone to think inside out like KapilDev or we can even go back to Nawab of Pataudi%u2026.

Vengsarkar is probably the best qualified people around for a selectors role. In fact after he came I felt why we never had such an imposing name in the selection committe when Australia can have Alan I didnt understand why India had Kirmani's and Kiran more's for selectors.

But thank God we have some body who is qualified and has a resume to show authority and vision.

I am happy with the selection and I know no selection will make the whole country happy at the same time. So there will be people like you left over unhappy.

But please find another way to show your frustration.

As Indians our interest is same "Winning the World Cup" I have no doubt Vengsarkar was a good player once upon a time. But somehow his recent actions do not reflect his true potential. I am not at all frustrated. I am definitely concerned about our performance in a tournament like world cup. Hope this helps.

I totally understand you. We are all pasionate fans wanting the best for team India. Some are satisfied and and some are not.

But lets move on to the next step now that selections are done. lets get concerned about the prep up to the event for the 14 players and about how they would perform each day.

Good luck to you all and India.
