Ganguly's Return
by Venkat Prakash on Feb 23, 2007 06:28 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Great to see Saurav BAck among runs.. but have been following these coloumns for some time now,, many of the ppl from the east seem to feel Vindicated,, no reason to be so.. dont attach any lingo stuff to Saurav's return,, he was out of form and after a long time , selectors showed guts dropping a big name,, he got dropped , worked hard and got back and doing well,, Bravo.!!! he was infact not doing well as a player.. Tiger or no tiger,, he has been a great scorer in one dayers but doesnt mean if he gets dropped , the whole beangal is humiliated,, if we check the facts , it was plain performance which led to that.. after that India had a wonderful One dayers run , both @ home and pakistan...
And leadership qualities ,, doesnt always need to pump fist and take of shirt to show off ur aggro.!! its facing the fast bowlers with chin up is what makes u command respect.. Dravid has over and time done that.. he opened in pakistan and tried not to expose saurav to Shoib and co when his confidence was all not that great shows character,, and he forged that epic partnership with Veeru.. give it a chance mates.. dont treat this as a regional forum,, all were happy when Saurav did well,, most were disappointed when he was dropped,, (when ever we see a left arm spinner do well,, we think ,, lucky man , Saurav is not on strike..),, he s back and doing great.. calling Dravid weak or ?ing sehwags place or not gonna help.. move on and enjoy the team s performance.. GOOD LUCK INDIA.!!!!

I hve hardy seen a better and accomplished
man than this Venky.
He is so thoghtful and analytical.
I really appreciate.
How the Dada haters will taste like?
Try and put them as sumptuous meal.
Dada will feed on them.
Whosoever is the Captain;
Ganguly is the rallying point.
He is the real leader.
See how a demoralised and losing
side comes to life as Ganguly comes in.
How Yuvraj and Dhoni drenches him in lemonade shower.
So sing in praise of Dada;
Other things will automatically follow.

performance, commitment, honest hardwork and determination can make a lot of dif than the media hype, politician influence and dadagir and godfather in bcci. 8 yrs ago dravid considered to unfit of odis now he is leading the team for WC and completed 10K with average of 40.01 highest catch holder for india in odi(test too), two year repesented the icc odi team, played superleague match represented World 'XI against auss...consistantly scored runs for team, building partnership against strong teams , bowler friendly ptichs. out of 10k runs 6500 runs and our 77 fifties 53 fifties scored outside india. No!test batsman india. finished 9000 runs earliar than brain lara and sachin, ICC test team member for 3 consecutive years, 3 Icc awards , MTV youth icon award, Castrol cricketer / batsman of year 2006-06 (4th time castrol award)...considered as thinking cricketer by int'l cricket experts.. and within 1yr of captancy dravid's name shortlisted for ICC captian award.. Great servant of ind cricket (ithout any godfather in bcci,media hype/publicity, politicians influence)from last 10 yrs Earns respect of teamates b'cuz his performance criticised for the reasons he is not responsible for..
Great going C aptain Dravid Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!
Dravid average as captain in test and odis is better than a normal avergae. he leads team by performing as per team requirement / under pressure and crucial innings

Thanks for the accolades mate but guess u missed the point.. this is what i replied to one of ur response yesterday..

well Indra,,
guess u just wanna get some replies.. and before u start venturing into culinary habits (idli dosa's and stuffs) pls try to have some logic.. u feel Saurav is special because u like him,, fair enough,, and lemonade on Saurav by Dhoni and Co.. even if Romesh Powar were to be MOS ,, they would have done the same to him,, and pls India was never or never will be great or better due to one Individual, be it Bengali, Tamilian or a Marathi,, the beauty lies in the fact that every body comes toghether and sparkle in Unision,, after a great Indian meal,, dont bother that the fish was from Bengal, the rice from AP and Vegetables from Haryana.. its the collective stuff mate..

You are quite right but don't make sweeping generalisation about parochialism of East-just as Bajrang Dal don't represent silent Hindu majority, the fundamentalist followers of Ganguli don't represent majority of East, in all probability they don't represent Ganguli himself. And talking of regionalism it is a pan-Indian phenomena

I agree Prashant.. but follow this coloumn and u will know why.?? Krish Srikaanth was dropped after drawing series with Pakis , they player 13 players (11 2 umpires) ,, it was the same as Saurav when he was dropped,, team did great but Srikkant as player was a flop..
And i agree, i am a south india brought up in north ,, i have seen the both sides,, and yep.. its a pan india phenomena,, and its a shame
