Dravid is a Officeman - not a sportsman
by Sunil Kumar on Apr 29, 2007 05:25 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I think the board of selectors need to take cue from the Australian team and think about who the captian wouild be, instead of again continuing with Dravid. Of course, Dravid may be gentleman, nice person to talk to off the field, and may say yes to every condition and rule the board puts in, but remember the team always looks for inspiration and emulates the captian. We would need a captian who is agile like Ricky Ponting, Ajay Jadeja might have been an inspiration if he was not banned from playing cricket. The captian should have a wide smile, he should be agile, he should have reflexes that inspire the rest to perform on the field, he should look more of a sportsperson and always be moving on the field rather than a static person, and he should himself put so much on the board that he can question the teammates for their nonperformance, and above all, he should think of what best resources he has at hand and how to use them, rather than saying "I want Sehwag in the world cup team", which lead only to come out of the world cup.

So we want a sportsman at the helm not a officeman if we want the cricket in India to reach to its glory.

Let me at the end congratulte the Australian team for their superb performance and spirit for the game and country.

We do not have a player who is a certainty for both ODI and test matches except Rahul Dravid and hence his selection is automatic for the post. Sad plight of our team.
