The last sentence in the statement,:Now even Ireland can beat Australia" shows what a cheap and street level thinking this man Gavaskar has.He has always muttered more rubbish than sense. So,this is nothing new.We all know what an attention grabber he has always been.
And,what does he mean by saying that Indian cricket was filled with optimism at the time Chappell took over.We had just got thrashed comprehensively by Pakistan on home ground in the one-dayers and held to a draw in the test seires by an under strength Pakistan. We couldn't even bat out half a day in Bangalore to save the test and win the series. As usual let down by the ever final innings consistent Sachin Tendulkar.
Gavaskar is just attacking Chappell to compliment Sachin's tirade against him.The Mumbai cricket mafia at work again.

Absolutely true, Waseem. Gavaskar like tendulkar is a self-server. The cheap talk he resorts to shows his level. He recently apologised for his remarks on David Hookes.
Gavaskar has to be firmly shown his place if Indian Cricket has to improve.
See the facts we had that Chappel made a complete mess in the dressing room and he himself telling all these to the reporters also this was never happend ever. It seems that he was just enjoying to riduclue the press, people and his superiority complex did everything.
Sachin is not the same old all we know thats right. But at the same time we cannot deny the reality.
Somehow it does not make sense that only Chappell was to blame for all the ills of the Indian team.He might have been high -handed and domineering--but he always wanted the team to do well and move forward.
