Don't compare Tendulkar to Don Bradman or Lara anymore
by Ganesh Rajan on Apr 16, 2007 04:46 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I don't care if Tendulkar plays for the next 20 years, but at least stop comparing him to Don Bradman or Lara. Let him have a test average of 100 or a record test score of 400 before we elevate his status again. Tendulkar is a dhobi-ka-kutta - he has neither the best records of the game nor the spirit to win key games like Miandad did for Pakistan.

Incidentally, I was reading an interview with Don Bradman from a few years ago, this is what he has to say on playing for the country and creating records.
--------------------------------------------
DB: Oh well, I was terribly proud of that of course. Everybody's got to be proud to represent their country, doesn't matter whether it's cricket or football, whatever it may be, you must be proud of it. Because it's vastly more important to play for your country, than to play for yourself.
RM: Was it the highlight of your life?
DB: Oh yes, definitely the highlight, because the pinnacle of my ambition was to play for Australia. And that was it. To wear the green blazer.
RM: Breaking records..did they matter?
DB: No, no..they were entirely incidental, they came by accident.

you forget that bradman himself said watching tendulkar reminded him of himself. are you asking bradman ~up in heaven~ to retract?
tendulkar is being made one of the scapegoats, but he will sparkle soon and near continually-to my mind- he can play for easily the next few years; well ahead of the 2011 WC. sunny (who was far less fit) played till he was 38...and please dont come up with rubbish that his class and skills are on the wane...

BCCI is a gutless and characterless body. It is not being held in high esteem by either the players or others.
Just remember how Ponting teased and made fun of Pawar.
It has no image of transperancy. With the arrival of a politician at it helm of affairs things are becoming more obscure and hypocrisy is evident.
These politicians have no guts at all.
They can not take any harsh decisions but ride on the wave of public sentiments and emotions.
Dalmiya, whatever be the allegations against him, was the last good thing that happened to BCCI.
