Dravid, the best player for India in the last decade but the most undermined and underestimated
by Prashant Reddy on Apr 10, 2007 11:15 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

For all you people who want Dravid's head are forgetting Dravid's contribution to the Indian cricket. For most of victories which India have achieved, you have to agree that there was Dravid's performance somewhere in the middle because of which India had won. An easy example would be Dravid's 180 odd runs against Australia test in Calcutta. How many people remember Dravid's 180 agint VVS Laxman's 270. Just like this there are so many matches where Dravid's contribution has been undermined. I agree that Dravid as captain has not done well this year, but how many people remember that the same team under Dravid's captaincy has lead to the world record consequetive wins which India has achieved a year ago. A leader can only show the direction to his subordinates, it is for the people to follow the leader. As for as the World Cup goes, there are a number of reason's for India's debacle at the World cup.

1. The same aging team: How different is our Indian team compared to the team which we had in the last world cup 4 years ago, not much different, the team members have only gotten more older. In such a situation how can a team which is having the same squad as in the last world cup win matches. The main reason for this being our selections committee's inability to take strong decisions. Look at Saurav Ganguly's example how strong and determined he is today after he was sacked out of the team more than a year ago. We need a simillar attitude towards other players also.

2. The Indian cricket system: I very much agree with what Chappell has said about Indian cricket."You cannot expect to produce a team like Australia if you want to run the system the Zimbabwe way".

3. We definately need new players in the team, you cannot keep a player because of his reputation. Dravid as a captain was wrong in favouring Sehwag. Sehwag has been out of form from God knows when. If it were an Australian team more than half of the present team would have been out of the team cooling their heels at home, but no we chose to stick with GREAT NAMES instead of performance which is a cardinal sin, As Swami Vivekananda once said "The means are much more important than the end result". With the means unjust or incorrect one is bound to fail sooner or later and thats exactly what has happened with our cricket team.

Jai Hind

Prashant.

The problem with us is that we reward someone for his past good performances, and not punish for his present failures.

Yes RAJESH SREEDHARAN, I agree with you ganguly knows how to use DRAVID as wicket keeper & match finisher along side Yuvraj during his captaincy.. but dravid does not know how to use Ganguly as 8th batsmen during his captaincy. And i strongly believe Ganguly should be brought back for captaincy & make him fail again to show what is he fit for. And for those who speak about dravid & ganguly win rating in abroad.. both yields in same percentage.. check cricinfo stats.

real culprts for wc debacle.
YUVARAJ:
Yuvaraj Not played in last match
if he played India will wins,
If India wins, India enters super 8
If India enters super 8, rahul remain captian for few years.
So YUVARAJ NOT PLAYED UPTO HIS CAPABILITY.

SACHIN :
If he played as HE BAT theny India will wins,
If India wins, Rahul will remains captain,
If Rahul cpatian the he will be dropped from Indian team, so he not played and nxt day there is roomer
Sachin is Next captain, if HE IS NOT SELECTED AS NEXT CAPTAIN, NO PROBLEM, HE WILL BE IN INDIAN TEAM supported by Gangully

GANGULY :
If Ganguly played to win, Rahul team gets isnto super 8 and winning average stat will changed.
Gnguly thinks, If rahul remains captain He will not get chance in future as players, so he supports Sachin to selected as captain.
He supports Mumbaiker, Sharad Pawar will happy, Also Vengserker.
So Gangully changes his place West Bengal (Dalmiya)to Mumbai(Sarad Pawar)
SO GANGULLY PLAYED SELFISHLLY

SEHWAG :
He played for himself and for Rahul(He supported to placed in WC squad)
So SEHWAG PLAYD FOR RAHUL NOT FOR INDIAN WIN.

DHONI:
You never thought he is consistant player of cricket, Hitter is not match winner, or classical cricketer.
NOTHING SPECIAL IN HIS BATTING.

Pl know, what chappal told about ganguly,

On Sourav Ganguly: "He has practiced most of what I had preached during the time he was out of the team. He has shown plenty of determination in winning his place back. I hope he continues to work hard on his fitness and score heavily for the team."

Dravid as a captain, its really horrible.
Its seems a lamb will lead a team of tigers..

Again dravid is selected as captain by the board.
Actually this decision should be taken by the
selectors. It indicates that south lobby were
presurising BBCi to make a dravid as a hopeless
captain.

Hence it proves that dravid is a leader
of mafia, gunda. and now he ia having god father in bbci.

ganguly is selfish, oppertunist cunning politician
he ditched dalmiay a fellow bangali known as his
for all 5 yrs his tenure as captain
ganguyly ditched dravid and dravid anchored ganguly 's success as captain
he can ditch his chelas like harbajan, sewag, yuvraj dhoni and zhairkhan

dravid was thrown in the dustbin
by the selectors from ODI.
it was ganguly, who shaped his career
as ODI perfect player..
but this dravid dicthed ganguly,
played polities with chappel to remove
ganguly from indian teams..
he seems very innocent by look,
i m telling he is real culprit
for destroying indian team..
'Team India'brand was wellknown
during Dadas capatincy..

Man, Dravid has achieved the record of most no of consequetive wins only in the Indian Soil or in the Indian Sub continent only.
But,look at Ganguly's captaincy... Under him, India won matches in foreign soils...
I do admit that Dravid is a good batsman, but not a good captain...
And remember, in the last world cup, Ganguly had almost the same team, but most of the players were inexperienced. But, he knew how to utilize each player which Dravid does not know...
