Possible chances for India to enter Super 8
by bala kumaran on Mar 21, 2007 03:18 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

[1] It will be easy if BD beat SL and India beat SL.

[2] If SL win against BD and loose against India then definitely SL will qualify for Super 8 (since they have high net run rate) and it will be a NRR competition between India and BD. This is tough because we need to wait for the last match (Ber Vs BD) and BD should not win by huge margin. This is something out of our control.

Hence, it will be good if SL loose against BD and India.

if india is aiming for a berth in semifinal then better would be bangladesh beating sri lanka and india beating sri lanka with a better run rate. however if bangladesh win against then the only option is to beat sri lanka and india will be through to super 8s but with a match lost to bangladesh. best would sri lanka beat bangladesh by a huge margin such that bangladesh vs bermuda should make little difference.

But if Bangla gets to next round, with us, we wont be carrying any points with us.

Remeber the problem we had faced in 1999?

Tournamanet structure is such that ideally we want someone to progress in next round whom we have beaten.

Say India and Bangladesh make it to next round.
Bangla will carry points they have against us, and we despite beating Lanka, if we do, will not be able to carry single point in the next stage.

On the contrary if Srilanka march with us, they wont carry any points, we will(from our win against lanka).

I hope that makes sense?

It will be an uphill battle for BD. They lost to Kenya/Zim/Canada in the past. It is very unlikely that they can score 400 against Bermuda. They have already played too many games in last two weeks as they played a series against Bermuda and Canada after coming to the Carrebean. They also played practice matches against Scotland/NZ.

Beating two world champions in a row will be extremely difficult for the young, inexperienced side. SL is much tougher than India. Murali rules the world. Vaas and Malinga are way ahead of Zaheer/Munaf. It will be a very difficult outing for BD tomorrow. They have to play way above their potential to have any chance.
