India will get chance to super8 round
by Ravishankar PS on Mar 21, 2007 10:41 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

dear to all indian cricket fans

do not worry about india lost to bangladesh.. bangladesh will not get chance to super8 stage because

today match srilanka vs bangladesh --> srilanka will win

next match srilanka vs india --> sure india will bounce back and to win

next sunday bangladesh vs bermuda --> bangladesh will win but not high net run rate

then srilanka, india and bangladesh will get 4 points each but for net run rate srilanka and india will be better than bangladesh

that is why bangladesh will not be possible to enter supoer8 round

with warms regards

Halo, you are wrong. If Bangladesh wins against Bermuda, they will automatically qualify for super 8 since they have beaten India. We are in catch 22 situation and only God can do some wonders and nobody else.

study the game, if SL wins agst BD, India wins agst SL, and BD beats Bermuda, then it is 2 wins all, with each of the 3 beaten each other. then it all boils sown to NRR, however, if India qualifies, its better its with SL as the match between the 22 qualifiers wud carry into the next leavel

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8 stage and any points they may have earned against the other qualifier from their own group will be carried through. Points earned against the non qualifing teams in the same pool will not be carried over. In the Super 8s, each team will play the six remaining qualifiers from the other groups and the top four teams will go through to the semi-finals. Positions will be decided by most points. Where two or more teams are tied on points, the following methods in turn will be used to decide which team goes through:

Most wins in their group or in Super 8 whichever is applicable

Higher Net run rate

Higher number of wickets taken per ball

Winners of head to head matches

The drawing of lots

What are we talking about? The calculations are different in our case. India - Side that bats first is bowled out. Side batting second - Bangladesh - wins.

Team A bat first and are skittled out for xxx off 49.3 overs. Team B reach the target for the loss of xxx wickets off 40.5 overs, scoring a single to win the game and end with xxx runs.

Despite Team India's runrate for the balls they faced being because they were bowled out the entire 50 overs are added to their total overs faced tally for the tournament, and Team B are credited with having bowled 50 overs.

Team B actually scored at a slower pace, however they managed to protect their wickets. Thus, only the xxx overs are added to the seasonal tally.

Let's not be carried away by net run rate. It is misleading and the media has not understood the explanations provided

its not as bad you make it sound. nobody has made it yet....i think we have to wait until last ball of the bdesh/bmd match on 25th to be clear about this. As of now, all three teams have got equal chance....if bdesh beats srilanka today, the picture would be a bit more clearer because in that case, india beating srilanka would be enough and no run rate would be in play.

Gentleman - please understand - we have already been beaten by Bangladesh. If all the three team qualify with equal number of points, with the clause - winner of head to head matches - we are out under this rule.

Please remember that we were in the same situation during last world cup match also when Zimbabwe qualified and Gavaskar making a hue and cry of the calculations. Even today, we are on the same situation. In the first round of match, having beaten by Bangladesh, our position is not all that comfortable as it sounds by the different method of calculations.

SriLanka and India should enter super8. cause if bangladesh andindia enters tahn India is virtually out of semi-finals (assuming india defeats SL)

reason:

BD carries 2 points for defeating India. and so Indai carries 0 points. @ the same time in super 8. teams like australia, newzealand and westindies have advantage because of both bangladesh and ireland and 2 points from their rounds.

lot many permutation combinations..keeep watching

in fact, it is better for india if bdesh beat srilanka. In that case, india beating srilanka would be enough and run rate would not play a role.

okay india and bangladesh will be better to enter super8 if bangladesh beat srilanka but what will both india and bangladesh get points in table of super8?

bangladesh will get 2 points while india will get nil points because india already lost to bangladesh in opening match.

how will india qualify for semifinal with 0 points?

That is absolutely wrong. Bangladesh will move to Super 8 by beating Sri Lanka. Not sure about the rest! Got that?
