How r points calculated ? How is net run rate calculated ? Now that India has a super win against Bermuda , what is the real reason for losing to B.Desh ?

The net run rate is calculated by the difference in total run rate as compared to that of its opposition that a team makes in a tournament. World cup 2007 is divided into two mini tournaments. One part is group stage where net run rate is calculated but is not carried over to the Super 8. In Super 8 the net run rate would be blank at the start for all those teams who have qualified as per the amendment issued by ICC. To calculate net run rate take for example India. India Scored 191 runs against Bangladesh in 50 overs (50 overs considered as they were bowled out within 50 and hence as per rule full 50 overs would be used for calculation) and 413 against Bermuda. So there combined run rate would be (191 413)/(50 50)=6.04. There opposition scored 192 in 48.5 overs (even though 195 were scored by Bangladesh only 192 is counted as per rule for calculation of run rate) and 156 in 50 overs by Bermuda (they were all out and hence 50 full overs used for calculation). So the oppositions run rate is (192 156)/(48.5 50)=3.53. Now net run rate = (Teams combined run rate) - (Oppositions combined rate) = 6.04 - 3.53 = 2.51 Hope this solves the confusion.

a little bit of correction ... NRR for bangladesh will have to considered as if they batted for 50 overs and not 48.5 overs. hence effective opposition NRR against India would be 3.48 and NRR for india will be (6.04 -3.48) = 2.56 i hope its clear now......

No Correction Required 1) NRR for Bangladesh would be on basis of 48.5 overs only. What if they had beaten India in 30 overs are you saying that Bangladesh's NRR would a difference of one run only as overs played by them is on basis of 50 (same as India)and not 30. 2) Check the official web site of ICC for Net Run Rate in India's case (Is it 2.51 or 2.56)? http://cricketworldcup.indya.com/ 3) Do this calculation for other countries and compare with the NRR for all on above site.
