india is one of the top teams in cricket with cricket actively played by only 10 teams in the world....thats bullshit......whereas hockey is played by 30-40 teams all over the woorld and competition is very much high in hockey than cricket......top european nations ,china, russis, korea, australia all play hockey....if india catches even in top 10 position in a sport that is played by 30-40 nations all over the world.....that will be an great thing ....not claiming top 10 position in cricket actively played only by 10 nations all over the world......cricket is for time pass, luck from rain god, and some mental games while hockey is all about power, precision and team work......while cricket has scope for individual heroes like scahin whil hockey is purely team game.......there is no scope of one-man army in hockey while cricket can have one-man army like sachin......

You can say whatever you want but Hockey will never ever gain importance over Cricket in India. It will not happen even in the biggest of dreams.
And whatever you are saying... ur comparison is totally biased over hockey. No game is easy. And no game is better or tougher than the other. Every game has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Cricket took so much enormous popularity in India due to historical reasons and due to luck.
India won World Cup in Cricket exactly at the time when Colour Television had started (1982) and TVs were getting accessible to the masses. This gave renewed interest in the game, and the rest is history.
While Hockey and Football are both action-packed games and get unrivalled attention from most of the countries of the world, Cricket is limited to the British-ruled countries, and among them too, not many take it seriously.
Both games have their own merit, but we must not forget that winning a Hockey World Cup has much more credibility than winning a Cricket World Cup - due to the intensity of competition involved.
You might remember that Olympic Hockey was entirely dominated by India for several decades of the 20th Century, but in the 2nd half of 20th Century, more and more countries joined Olympic Hockey and India started losing its champion status - more and more aggressive competition.

Not so biased to cricket. But, there are few valid points. It is luck for cricket to gain the name, but, many people misusing that, like BCCI. It is nonsense IPL cricket also. Hockey also must be encouraged and it is not less to cricket.
