We also go ga ga over the number of times someone has won at a particular event. Becker featured in 7 Wimbledon finals. Winning 3 of them. 1985, 1986 and 1989. Losing 1988 to Edberg in 4 sets, 1990 again to Edberg in 5 sets, 1991 to Stich and 1995 to Sampras in 4 sets. If only those 4 setters and 5 setters could have been converted, who knows? That's why he's one of the greatest at Wimbledon. In spite of only 3 titles. Because of the sheer level of competition he faced. The same holds true for McEnroe. He has three Wimbledons and two 5 setter final losses to Borg and Connors.

I would say that the Borg Mc Enroe final of 1980 was the greatest of all time. I would also vote for Mc Enroe and Edberg being the greatest players of their generation. One feels that while Federer would come back, he would slowly cut back on his engagements and veer slowly towards retirement.
While Borg had an icecool demeanor about him, he was actually sweating it out inside and his fragile temperament broke after he lost to Mac in 1981. But he would always be remembered as a gentleman and a sportsman.
