You are so right, but unfortunately games like cricket and football is within easy access of the mass, while golf is only for the elite, hence less interest

Golf is NOT for the elite. If former caddies like SSP Chourasia, Mohammad Islam, Ali Sher and Ashok Kumar, besides a host of others, can make it to the international scene in golf, there is no reason why the 'aam aadmi' can't do so also.

It costs a lot to have public golf courses, due to the heavy maintenance costs to maintain the fairways and greens. Even advanced countries do not have public courses. Sponsors can take up the job of identifying people who can play golf and develop them.
