pawn down ending.. ? for your information, the marshall attack is an opening wherein black gives up a pawn in exchange for a strong attack. If white knows how to prevent the attack, then it almost always leads to a draw.

This is not the case of a normal game wherein one player has a pawn less and has to struggle to get a draw.

i know very well abt the marshall attack. in the end-game black didn't got any compensation for pawn. leko played very well and manage to draw in the endgame. i was going thru the game on icc... and many ims and gms were expecting win for anand...

ram, dont think people who r commenting on rediff have no knowledge of chess.

btw, my fide rating is 2239... what is urs?

Looks like your a pretty knowledgeable guy. Your rating 2239 says it all. Btw, i was following all the games on playchess.com and there noone was expecting anything more than a draw.

anyway, sorry if i offended you...

its ok, ram.

i've not done thorough analysis of game. but the time i was online to icc, most of the strong online players were saying it shud win for white.

but as i saw the game right now, anand had just draw after 3-4 moves in the endgame. u may b right.
