Probably Sania is not as good as media has projected. Now we should not blame her for the media hype. She may not be good enough to compete among the top tennis players in the world, but she is a much better player than any other girls in India. So she is getting attention. The problem is India even being such a big country with a huge population, we only have one girl and two guys in tennis to cheer about. Even a small country like Serbia is producing much better singles players. When Sania arrived we all expected something good. Now day by day we are realizing that this is another pipe dream and getting upset.
On the other hand, Sania might have the potential to play better but she is perhaps not trying enough. I have only once watched her play when he came to play Japan Open. Her serve was pathetic, forehand is good, but due to sluggish movement in the court she was not reaching the ball properly and erratic. Trying to finish the rally as quickly as possible, so that she does not have to run. After reading recent match reports and comments it seems that even after nearly two years, the problems are still there and exactly as it was. She probably already got more than she expected from tennis and do not want to go the extra mile to achieve a little more. Still wish her all the best. But without much real hope. Society wise, we Indians are basically good in study, but not in sports. We should just admit it and relax.
