Cancellation of such events is a sort of victory for the terrorists who organized the bomb blasts. Do the police not have the confidence to arrange for adequate security to organize the event.
Normally, governments go out of the way to continue with sport events to signal that things are in control. Cancellation of the badminton event will not do any good to people's confidence since it indicates that the government is still nervous.
There were cases in which our cricket team had been threatened before tours to Pakistan and Bangladesh. But the governments did not cancel the tours.
I think the govermnent should have been more determined in letting the badminton tournament happen. Anyway, we do not have a large crowd turn up for badminton matches and providing security should not be such a challange compared to a cricket match.
