These cheap road shows!
by Jaganniwas Iyer on May 12, 2008 07:59 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

It's a pity that a well-meaning columnist like Sunanda K Datta Ray should fall for this peice of gimmickry by the Dynasty brat. I would like to iterate that even Mohandas Gandhi's shows of sympathy for Dalits remained just that - mere gimmicks, as he dared not court direct action. This is in stark contrast to Veer Savarkar, the firebrand Hindu nationalist (and a brahmin) who, without lecturing too much, took a group of so-called untouchables into a Ratnagiri temple. Of course, our media is never going to reprt this, you know why! Savarkar's conviction and genuine commitment moved even Dhananjay Keer, Dr Ambedkar's official biographer. It's going to take much more than photo-ops with Dalits to change their social condition. The Dynasty has fooled us long enough. Let not these columnists join this bandwagon of falsehood.

U r right. All these acts are meant to impress the gullible and are driven by a calculated publicity motive. I can't see Rahul having a genuine concern about the less unfortunate in the country. He has never come across as a socially conscious person in any of his views or pronouncements so far. That goes for the entire family too. Some clever advisor is working overtime to checkmate Mayavati. As a politician, she is quite astute and Rahul is no match for her. Rahul's advantage is of course his birth and nation-wide visibility.Veer Savarkar is an unsung hero of the freedom movement. The Andaman jail where he was put in solitary consignment will send shivers up the spine of any brave hearted. He did not get there because he wanted the PM's gaddi or had his sights set on some Ministerial post. People who would be the first to take to heels were such a sacrifice to be called for in politics today, call him names today only because he happened to support the Hindu cause. Perverted, warped intellectual atmosphere prevails today where charlatans rule the roost.

One day in the solitary confinement will break the will of any person of the standing of today's leaders. He stood it for he demanded freedom for this country and not self-agrandisement. Even if he had breathed his last in the solitary confinement, will they honour him and remember him now? Sometimes, after enough torture, u see that there's some more that can be done outside than wasting one's life in darkness. He had such calibre to deliver and recognised that it was foolhardy to spend the years in darkness while meaningful contribution can be made outside. The country needed such persons of such outstanding integrity and leadership qualities. I don't think we are even qualified to talk about him in this callous manner for our will and our commitment to the country has not been tested so cruelly. Sometimes wisdom is the better part of valour.

i think you are a brahmin and are hyping him as he also is a brahmin.
when we have numerous leaders and revolutionaries who laid down their lives, why should we be talking about someone who wrote letters of apology?
