Haaaaaay guys dont abuse the assembly, please try to see the bigger picture. A section of media also cried for Mr. Nandlal yesterday without going to the root of the matter. In democracy each institution has powers - powers to rule, to direct, to correct etc. The rule of law also demands institutions to show respect to each other. Mr. Nandlal definitely had a point but when assembly commitee asked him to appear in front of it and explain his stand he refused it for 15 months. THAT IS DEFINITELY A DISRESPECT TOWARDS AN ELECTED BODY AND AN INSTITUTION WHICH IS SUPREAME FOR THAT STATE. While he wanted toteach a lesson to politicians he forgot the oath that he took when he joined IAS - which made it necessary to punish him. A lot of messeges have been given to politicians by the SC that they aren't above law - it was needed for the buruecracy also. I FEEL ITS THE RIGHT DECISION BY THE STATE ASSEMBLY

They face contempt. Mr Nandlal was not sentenced by the Congress but by the entire Assembly, needless to say, which is comprises of all the parties.

The order issued by him was as a constitutional authority, and that was explained in the letter to the assembly and thus no personal representation was necessary. It was an order in conformity with constitution issued by the office of State EC.

Mr. Tyagi, here's what the report says "By refusing to depose before the committee and also by refusing to submit a signed clarification, Nand Lal has obstructed the constitutional and legislative functions of the committee," the committee said. THIS SHOWS THAT BY NOT EVEN ANSWERING A LETTER FROM THE ASSEMBLY COMMITEE HE DIDNT HAVE RESPECT FOR A CONTITUTIONAL BODY, further it shows that he didnt believe in authority of the commitee to call him THUS IMPLYING THAT HE WAS ABOVE THEM (and the law)

Okay, it looks like the site don't like references to other sources. So, just read further the article on this site itself:
The privilege committee met on June 15, 2006 for the first time and sought Nand Lal's written clarification on the issue of local self-government bodies elections.
The committee, on September 8, 2006 received a letter from section officer of the State Election Commission, which pointed to the constitutional status of the Commission, Chhajed later told media persons.
"The orders were issued by Nand Lal not in his personal capacity, but as head of the office and as such, it is not necessary that he submit a personal reply," the letter said.
"One has to proceed as per section 124 (4) of the Constitution to remove Supreme Court judges, High Court judges Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Chief Election Commissioner and State Election Commissioner," the letter said.
Now, I think my previous statements are very well supported.

Tell me which Rules politicians obey and hence why should Nandlal obey them. For every rule being and politicians have a way to break it sheerly with money power. As long as we have politicians nothing positive is going to happen. They are the biggest disgrace to democracy

I partially agree with u tejaswi, but this is like saying X isnt obaying so y should not obay. Like I said the SC is trying to tame the X.... Y has to follow the law after all they are educated and we have more hopes from them than the politicians

MR. VISHY U SAID '' Y HAS TO FOLLOW THE LAW AFTER ALL THEY ARE EDUCATED''. THE LAW ARE PREPARED BY THE SO CALLED POLITICIANS WHICHEVER PARTY MAY THEY BELONG TO. THEY ALWAYS TAKE PRECAUTION TO KEEP A ESCAPE ROUTE FOR THEIR ILK. ITS PEOPLE LIKE US [EDUCATED LOT] WHO SHOULD BE BLAMED FOR NOT EVEN TAKING TIME OUT TO VOTE IN A ELECTION. SEE THE SLUMDWELLERS, FOR THEM ELECTION DAY IS LIKE A FESTIVAL. I AM SORRY TO SAY THAT THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO THE DOGS. MAY GOD SAVE THIS GREAT COUNTRY.
