The Great AMC Colonel
by Prithivish Shivdasani on Mar 20, 2008 01:03 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The Great Colonel does not have recent examples. He revels in the fact that it was the Maratha kingdom that fought at Delhi, Agra & Panipat against the British and the Turkish Mongols.

MY MESSAGE TO HIM. THERE WAS NO COUNTRY CALLED INDIA THEN. IF THE MARATHAS FOUGHT AT THESE VENUES, IT THEN BECOMES ARGUABLE WHETHER THERE WAS ANY NATIONAL INTEREST THEN.

So the premise that the marathas fought to save India is questionable. The only thing they could have fought for at that time was either for kingdom expansion or for the defence of religion/culture etc. The culture in Maharashtra is not the same as the culture in North South or even east India.

So Dear Colonel please give relevant examples.

I am agreed with you since maraths were trying to rule at Delhi at that time.

Marathas were thinking that by winning the battle of panipat they will become the sole power in India and they will rule all over India. That was the main reason they were fighting against Ahemad Sah Abdalis. Due to this they didn't get the support of other states like Haryana, Paunjab and UP etc. and they were brutally defeted by Afghans.
