It's good to say Maratha's fought for India. In every state people think it's they who fought most for India :-) This India never existed before the Mughals and British forced the petty kings and zamindars to come togother. Before that it was only a region with many kingdoms and fiefdoms always fighting against each other. That's why even today it's the regional feelings that are easily instigated.

Absolutely correct, that's what I've been trying to point out so many times before... except that it wasn't the Mughals but actually the British that united India and gave us the concepts of nationalism and democracy. I'm really angry at the way they implemented their rule though -- they bled our people dry, and we should rightly take our revenge -- but "India" the ideal is strong enough to take these events in its stride and move ahead. See what is happening now, India is rising as a power. But don't think these circumstances were always the same. Whatever barriers exist are created by ourselves - our narrow-mindedness; like shown in the above article.
