I am a resident of Goa for the past 18 years and I can tell you that though Goa is beautiful and lovely, in the past few years it is going to the dogs. Law enforcement in Goa is a joke. Depending on which politician you know in Goa the police can accordingly be influenced. The Goa Police do not have a backbone and bend at the whims and fancies of the politicians. No honest law abiding person in Goa can approach the Police or expect any kind of help from them. They are a corrupt lot with no moral standing. I have experienced this first hand with the Police. I am away from the country for nearly 6 months of the year and when my wife any problems with the neighbours etc., she just cannot expect any help from the police. What is happening in Goa now is the rot is slowly getting exposed. As accusations will fly back and forth, remember the police are just a small cog in the huge wheel of politics. I am sure that the initial investigation of the poor British Tourist was a farce and political pressure was brought upon the police to render a case of suicide. Now that a major media exposure has taken place, the police will try and catch a few people and charge them. Believe me, the big fish WILL get away. That is what ALWAYS happens. I hope the continuing Media exposure will highlight the deficiencies in the Goa Tourist industry. Being a Goan, I avoid the shacks dotted along the coast of Goa because they are a haven for drugs and bad food with exorbitant prices. Try going as an Indian

You are 100% true Kenny. Your comments reflect the stark reality of today's Goa. And as you said the shacks dotting the Goa's coastline have become totally commercialized and run by goons and unethical elements that is tarnishing the identity of peace-loving Goan culture. I still think somehow Native Goans (who else where in Goa) are still able to manage and preserve its true identity. You should travel to the Goa's country side to see this true Goa still intact since centuries. Long Live the Goan Spirit, like its locally made brew - Feni/Maadd!
Goa Government should ban these nefarious shacks with immediate effect, if it truly means to save Goa from the rogue elements!
