Mr.abhinav, Allah is the arabic name for god. I really pity the god/gods. The islamic god (or allah) can understand only Arabic, the hindu god/gods can understand only Sanskrit and the Christian god (or holy trinity) can understand only Latin!!!!!!!!!! Even a simple humanbeing like me can understand half-a-dozen languages.

even krishna asked of arjun to fight and kill his cousins, does that make him cruel.. if a non hindu was told abt it, he would think what kind of a cruel god was krishan, but tell him the entire context and he would say he was right.
so similarly do read the entire context of that verse
surah 8:12 was revealed after the incidents of battle of badr
during a battle in those days you would aim for the neck to get an immediate blow, and off course you would also aim for their fingers, once taking out their fingers the enemy would not be able to carry his sword hence you neutralize the enemy.
So there is nothing barbaric or mean about these verses, it is simply referring to a battle, and nothing barbaric was done in the battle neither these were how battles were fought back then.

Muhammed.........the 'I' in the slated verse is 'GOD' himself........Alah is saying that he will do such things to kafirs.......
BTW krishna was prompting arjun to kill evil.......not because he followed some other religion (or god).....

dear abhi
same case here, allah was talking abt evil who happened to be of a diff religion, in the case of hindus it was the same religion..
if both these incidents r placed out of context which u think would sound worse, a god prompting someone to kill his own family or a god saying he will kill the enemy

ELOHIM" (or Elohay) is the first name for God found in the Bible
YHVH" is the Hebrew word that translates as "LORD".
YHVH comes from the Hebrew verb "to be" and is the special name that God revealed to Moses at the burning bush.
hindus call him BHAGWAN.....
sounds more like a language issue that which of these god's really exists
ur statement abt muslims not accepting if hindus call god as bhagwan, it goes for every religion who would prefer to call god by the name as taught to them in their religious books.

hi abhinav
the quran makes no such statements abt killing someone who doesn't believe in him
the verses u probably read about were referring to those kafirs (non-muslims) who were waging a war against muslims during that era, quranic verses have to be read in the right context ..
and for the muslims who kill ppl who don't believe in allah, well i can't figure out what prompts them to be so cruel and sametime imagine that killing a non-muslim would guarantee him a place in heaven........highly ridiculous to believe that a religious book would approve of such an act, the world would have been doomed 1400yrs ago if all muslims believed that..
hope i was able to satisfy ur query wiht my limited knowledge

hi Muhammed......even in war.......how can the GOD be so cruel that he suggests that he himslef will snap off the finger tips of unbelievers........
read this:
8:12 I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.
Moreover Allah says of those who reject him. Because, Allah has already sentenced them to death.
well the world was doomed 1400 years ago.........when hindus and people of other religiong were forcefully converted.........women raped ...........rad about hindu persecution (wikipedia) and u will come to know the truth......
the killings due to islam are nothing short of a holocaust.....

The Brain, if there is one god, there can be any number of gods also. There are many countries on planet earth. Similarly there can be many parts to heaven/hell. The god/gods and/or their accredited agents may be waiting at the entrance of heaven/hell (some sort of no-man's land) to catch hold of the souls and push them into the heaven/hell.

if there is more than one god, i figure they too busy fighting amongst themselves to prove which one of them created the best religion..
no wonder they have no time for us considering the current scenario...
by the way i like the idea that it's not god's but aliens who visited earth and humans assumed them to be god since they came from the sky..:)
