Playacting by Musharaf, Nawaz Sharif and Zardari
by vivek khare on Mar 03, 2008 01:54 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Nawaz Sharif and Zardari have won in their constituencies in a free election conducted by President Musharaf.

Why are the cribbing. Musharaf has reined in the Army and its appedages from rigging the result, as a consequence of which they are back on centrestage.

There must be some real convergence of interest of the three main players.

So why is Nawaz Sharif going to town against Musharaf ?

Looks like they do not want the Saudi's and other benefactors to stop their largesse. That largesse is possibly based on continuing conflict. Like they do not want the Iranian Pipeline into India or China ?

Time will open out the cards

Your statement that Musharaf has reined in the army is a little out of context here. It is not Musharaf who has reined in the army, but the army of Pakistan which has reined in Musharaf now. If you have read the latest information on Pakistan in CNN, the new army chief, General Kayani has given instructions that no senior officers of the army can go and meet Musharaf without his express permission. Secondly, it seems that the orders for reversion of the army officers from the civilian posts have been given.
