There are two terms in Marine Insurance. Abandoning and Jettisoning. When a ship is on highseas prosecution of journey can be in danger due to rough weather or due to hazardous materials on board the vessel. Jettisoning of hazardous material will enable the vessel to continue its journey. But if the vessel is stranded and retrieval becomes risky or uneconomical the vessel itself is abandoned.
