what is religion
by Steve Andrews on Jun 17, 2008 11:00 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Distance creates traditions and traditions creates relegions, some choose different way of practising those traditions and finally create a religion. In India every 100-200 KMS traditions and language changes, that is why you have so many religions in India, Now consider world how many traditions and religion are there, there are religious heads with a difference of opinion and it creates the problem. If you convert all people of this earth to a single religion, see after 50 years or add more years to it, they will practise it differently, because there is no common body which will govern their way of worship. And finally they will create their own religion. This is nature which governs the religion not humans. Not a single religion today is without a divide among themselves. Forget fighting for a religion. You see a single joint family also, division is penetrated them so deeply, then forget about the whole religion which is composed of a million people. A difference of opinion creates a divide. Europeans fought over religion and colour and had so many wars. Now they got it, Ashok the Great also fought finally he understood there is no use fighting. And if you say my religion is true, then forget it you cant justify why you do that. Keep your religion inside you house/home, dont impose on anyone, it is for you not others.

Nice views, Dude.

But no harm preaching it and spreading it peacefully. If I found my lost Dad, first thing I would do is to inform my brother that I found Dad, and let us go meet him.

A preacher works only in that spirit

But that is different isnt it. How do you know the other doesnt have a better religion. Why do you want to preach to him. Why not learn from him.

No question of Better or worse.

it is question of Truth.

If I feel I found my DAD who we had lost somehow 20 years back when we were children, I will press my brother to join me and go asap to meet him.

If he argues we do not need dad, as Mr. abc has been more helpful than our DAD, then sure I will be unhappy with my brother. But that is my limit, I shall try persuade that dad is DAD, he is our father, no Mr abc can be his replacement. I will also do little coercion, all in spirit of brotherhood.

WELL Dude!!! What if he says MY DAD exists everywhere in everything and everybody. And starts to treat everybody as a DAD then whats your problem. He knows that the DAD is everywhere. And then you say no DAD doesnt exist everywhere etc. etc.and then start to coerce him.... do you get it?

no dude, most often (99% times) brother does not say what I know of is our real DAD. He says, I got a nice picture on the wall and treat it as my DAD. So no need of actual DAD. This picture is equally good.

I try say, no self chosen image of DAD got nothing to do with actual DAD, please let us go meet him..He too is keen that we meet him and love him as DAD

Brother says my chosen picture is enough for me -- 99% times

Not little coercion but follow the Prophet's words??????? In Muhammad's words: "I have been ordered to fight the people till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah.' And if they say so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with them..." (Bukhari 8:387)

it is NOT a question of Truth but blind faith. The Paradise filled with abundant supply of wine, woman, water, fruits, etc existed only in the fertile imagination of Muhammed. There is no proof for the existence of any god. Even those who fought along with Muhammed still lies buried and will remain so for ever.

There is nothing called "a better religion". All religions are hoaxes. The so-called holy books are creations of surrealistic visionaries and are no more serious than Gulliver's travels or Aesop's Travels. Peace on earth can prevail when we all get rid of the outdated religious dogmas. Heaven and hell are concepts. Nobody has come back to tell the stories after death. One fellow could think of "wine, woman, water, frutis, etc" even in the Paradise!

Of course!!! But when two people consider their religions to be superior to other then CONFLICT follows. Thats what I am pointing to. SO I am asking him why not consider the otherrs view point too.

Mr.Steve Andrews, you are absolutely right but it is very difficult to make the religious fanatics understnd this simple truth. There are more than 300 sects in Christianity and 73 sects in Islam the world (both profess to follow "one-book" and "one god", not to speak of other religions which are not as organized as these two.
