Bardhan exposes himself when he says that "It is already June 2008.."..This is the crux of the issue. All the while, the Left has been blackmailing the government with the fear of elections to hold it back so that the government is not able to carry forward its development agenda and when it fails, the Left can conveniently put the blame on it and accuse it of lack of governance. This is what happens when you have power without responsibility. Now that the elections are near, Bardhan knows that the Government may call the left's bluff and go in for elections early. Hence the lack of concrete protest from the Left on an issue of such far-reaching consequence like the inflation and fuel price hike. If they really cared for the common man,they would have taken to the streets on this issue much before.
As for India coming under the grip of communism, it is a pipe-dream. Communism thrives in India in small pockets..in states like West bengal,Kerala and Tripura. And even there, they hold on to power through intimidation. The Nandigram attrocities in West bengal and the violence unleashed by the CPM cadres in Kannur in Kerala are prime examples.
The people of India have seen through the design of the communists as they preened in front of the TV cameras in the last five yers, giving specious arguments on their opposition to the various moves by the government.But the people of India have seen through them and will give them a fitting reply in the coming elections.
