The navy had a lot of Sea Harriers - vertical take off and landing aircraft. Perfect for vessels that could not provide for a long runway.

Haven't heard about those for a long time. Those were made in England.

India dont have lot of Harriers. Besides the ones we have are the old Harriers. Its better to buy the new generation fighters for Navy than ordering new Harriers which is a 3rd generation fighter.

With INS virat nearing de-commission, the shars (sea harrier) will be losing its only launch platform and most probably would be de commissioned along side . The to be commisioned (supposedly by 2012) INS Vikramaditya would be hosting naval varient of Mig-29 s and the
