Kurananiddi said that he discussed the issue with AB Vajpayee when the NDA was in command...what did you expect Vajpayee to do...stand up and slap Kurunaniddi?
No...Vajpayee diplomatcally brushed aside the issue and put it in cold storage. Can you imagine the people who demolished Babri Masjid do something like that...even if they want to they cannot because they represent a particular set of people and that would have offended them.
This is also the reason why DMK withdrew support from NDA.
