Yechury's comments about speakers office

I rember that once upon a time Mr. Yechury was the main strategist & chief protagonist of the CPI(M) & the leftist line of thinking/action. And suddenly some time back Karat has appeared to be the main protagonist. Can anyone explain the reason behind this shift? Is Yechury trying to regain his lost power position?
