Somnath belonged to a party in whose ideology the individual has no place. The party is supreme. He accepted that ideology more than 50 years ago and practised it ever since. Now he can not turn around and say that his position as speaker of LS makes him independent. As speaker, while presiding, he can and should be independent. But how can he claim independence from the party on whose name he became MP and thus eligible for entering LS and was accommomdated as speaker by an arrangement his PARTY had with UPA? I am not a fan of CPM but think dispassionately on this issue. Where did he get this individualism all of a sudden? His party treats individuals expendable for the 'good' of society as they see it. The party does not recognise invidual aceivement and treats all acheivers and innovators as class enemies of the proletariat. Then? Hypothetically speaking, if India decides to withdraw from UN, shouldn't all indian officials on deputation to UN return? Can they claim they, as UN officials, are above nationality? Private Indian individuals employed by UN need not return. Similarly, all those who got positions of power like Vice Chancellors using blackmailing power of Yechury or Karat need not resign. But Somnath SHOULD'VE resigned.

The individualism displayed by somu hasn't come out of the blue...it may be a prelude to something
i wudn't be too surprised to see him running for president as a congress backed candidate

What is a party without people??? Party's ideology is people's ideology not something that comes down from heaven or hell.
Also in a democratic set up party is nothing people is primary, as all the big big ideology goes down the drain when begging for votes. Does that leech Karat and his chamchas not feel that only due to the public figures like Chatterjee's who win election after election they (Karat & Co) are getting some relevance in the Indian Politics otherwise who knows Karat & Yechuri???
