By declaring Mayawati as Prime Minister candidate. Left front in fact is looking far a 'bonded slave', as said my Dr. Manmohan Singh in his closing speech,where they can use her according to their whims and fancies. After all what they done in last four years except keep slapping the Prime Minister as and when they wanted in the name of outside support. Now they are practically out of power and they will not be covered by media that extensively. So they need some body like Mayawati...you see old habit die hard.

In my opinion no elected members are above the people. They are not supposed to behave like kings even though such people are getting more respect in India. By paying respect to the will of people no leader is going to loose his status.
