CPI-M expels Somnath Chatterjee
by INDER KRISHEN WALI on Jul 24, 2008 01:16 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

Well Done Somu da...! Sir, The whole Nation salutes you for the dignified and responsible manner in which you managed the various groups of dirty, sick, unruly and opportunistic politicians of the country...! The commies are absolutely wrong when they claim that it is because of them you were granted the position of the SPEAKER....!!! Sir it was because of your ability, aptitude, capacity and fine gentlemanly disposition that you were selected unopposed by all the parties. You are not only the HERO of Bengal but the LION of the whole nation. The nation is starving for the dignified and principled politicians like you. Sir I wish you could be The President of India. In fact the Commies should be grateful to you as the party could survive so many ups and downs because of the great statesman like you who gave HIS whole life to them for peanuts. And these ungrateful characters have the cheeks to misbehave with you in the manner even the cheapest of the Party would not have done. Sir, The CPI or the BJP or the CONGRESS or any other Party have their existence, nomenclature and are able to function because the Constitution of India has recognized their identity and status. Therefore while serving the Nation the Constitution of India stands first and then the respective parties of India. As per rule on the floor of the Parliament each and every Member of the Parliament has a right to express himself as per his conscience. No M.P. is supposed to function as a BONDED LABOR.....(Contd.)

I am not a supporter of CPI-M or Prakash Karat. But what Somnath Chatterji did was wrong. Issues can be debated within party forums, but when it comes to decisions on voting in the parliament, it should be a collective decision.

At other times, due to difference of opionion an MP should resign from the Party and Parliament and contest elections again.

If our leaders behave this way, would it be acceptable, if an jawan gaurding indo-pak betrays india stating 'Acting according to inner conscience' would it be acceptable.

The party high command may issue a whip but if they punish any M.P. for following his/her conscience then The ECI should act and ask for an explanation call from the respective parties. The WHIP is like a Fatwa issued by extremists and fundamentalists in illiterate and undeveloped Muslim Countries. Then what is the difference between the functioning of parties in a Democracy and the extremists groups. The very purpose of a Democracy and spending Income tax Payers hard earned Income on the maintenance of the Institution of Parliament in a Democratic country gets defeated the moment the M.P.s are punished for following their conscience. Shouldn’t the Supreme Court of India accept this humble Note as a PIL?
