"Highlighting the achievements of the UPA government, Chidambaram said rice production rose to a record 96.43 million tonnes in FY 2007-08, wheat at 78.4 mt, coarse cereals at 40.7 mt, pulses at 15.1 mt, oil seeds at 28.82 mt and cotton at 21.81 million bails."" then can anybody tell me why the prices of rice & wheat is so high!! the cheapest quality of rice is rs.18per kg & wheat is rs. 13 per kg.. where the all grains hav gone mr chidambram..

prcies are high for all commodities coz of problems of global nature. crude has touched record highs n that is the primary reason for inflation across products.

You seem to be taking an active interest in world economics....Go and check the economist of 7th june; inflation in most european countries is less than 4%...In cananda it is 3%..In malaysia 3%....They are also not oil producing countries

Who is paying for the subsidy bills....like the 100 thousand crores for NREGA

dude.......growth rates of these countries are significantly lower than China/india. If you want to compromise growth for controlling inflation then its ok. but not sure hw many would want that to happen esp with iip figures dipping severely.
