How much power will be generated through nuclear technology? How much will it cost? Who will provide the technology? What about the environmental effect, how the nuclear waste is going to be handled? What if the US decides to stop supplying raw materials and technology? etc. I think Govt. should have taken the scientists opinions on these issues before even thinking about the deal. In stead, the Govt. has used unscrupulous means to stay on the power and push the deal. I can say for sure, it is a black day for democracy.

TO know more about nuclear power, please visit website: world-nuclear.org, wise-uranium.org feel nuclear deal will serve immediate purpose of short term relief to india -this is positive but negative is more - surrender to america and western countries, india will not be a nuclear power with atomic bombs or research oriented industries, all our secrets are open to america and west, supply of fuel at any price dictated by west and america, high cost of production and heavy investment, delays due to fuel supply and in signing many agreements with suppliers of fuel (yellow cake),processors countries, enrichers of fuel, assemblers of fuel who are mainly western countries and america.high cost of fuel and its prices variation time to time. chances of accidents, leagage and reprocessing of spent fuel and its cost of dumping radiation waste ect will make life miserable to nuclear power planners.example- a belgium nuclear reactor buys yellow cake (uranium oxide) from australia and send yellow cake to canada to process to make in gasous form of uranium hexa flouride and from canada, this is sent to germany for enriching to isotope of U235 and sent back to belgium in the form of fuel rods to be used in nuclear reactor.then spent waste fuel is sent to france for reprocessing again and send back to belgium while waste fuel is dumped in some african countries. imagine about this deal where good chances to make money- up to waste dumping.

Signing the deal doesn't stop you from not buying reactors. It opens up purchases of dual-use technology items, like super-computers. If you are not convinved of the cost-benefit of nuclear power dont go for it, but at least keep a provision for it. Maybe at today's oil prices it's still not cost-competitive. If oil goes at say 500$ a barrell, we better be looking hard at nuke power. We need the deal for opening our options.

Unforunately it does put some restrictions on the nuclear testing...Is this worth for such a high cost? I don't have any specific answer to it. But, the scientists should openly debate all aspects of it.

Come on why are we scared of testing restrictions, when AB Vajpayee himself had declared that India doesn't need any more testing?

When did say that? Any references? Untill unless we keep developing technology they will get outdated. You don't even realize how fast the technology changes in US. They'll soon create a new technology which will protect them from any outdated nuclear weapons india has since 1998....

Mr.SKS: Future innovations will be done in India and the East as much as in US and Europe. India is no Ethiopia or Zimbabwe to be bulldozed through.
