NEW DELHI: Three of the country’s top nuclear scientists have said that once the nuclear deal is in place, India’s commercial nuclear interaction with other countries will be “firmly controlled” by Washington through the Hyde Act enforced through the U.S. “stranglehold” on the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
The scientists — P. K. Iyengar (former chairman, Atomic Energy Commission), A. Gopalakrishnan (former Atomic Energy Regulatory Board chief) and A.N. Prasad (former Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Director — have written a letter of appeal to Members of Parliament (MPs) on the Indo-U.S. civilian nuclear cooperation and pointed out several lacunae in the draft safeguards agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“We are strongly of the opinion that the government should not seek the IAEA Board’s approval for the current draft safeguards agreement until its implications are debated more fully within the country and with a group of experts who were not party to the IAEA negotiations,” they observed, adding that analysts had convincingly refuted the government’s main reason for pushing the deal — energy security to the country.

Lets talk about nuclear deal, the persons who are criticising the deal are either a layman or are unaware about diplomacy. The deal is opening the window for India to trade nuclear fuel and dual use technology that India was aparthied till now not from 45 members NSG country but also from our allied partner. Thus after deal we may freely move to any country either for purchase or to sell our novel depleted U fuel reprocessing technology and Thorium based reactor unique to world that India has innovated. Of course ,waste fuel dumping is little problem because of reutilisation leaving little amount of residues irrespective of USA and others that are facing the problems .Without deal it is impossible to be recognized as a technologically powerful country and play a significant role in the world plateform as well fetch the benifit.Due to volatile prices of fossile fuel, energy crisis, dependent upon import and need for sustainable development it is the only viable 0 carbon energy option in near future. Our sovereignty is also intact either trade with Russia,France,USA or else.India and USA are complementary partner not junior. Our education, health,IT,BT,BOP,Space and several sectors would be energised symbiotically. It is historic opportunit

If China has done a decade ago then why not India. We have now matured nuclear weapon technology and we can test on computer so there is no need to explode like five veto country.Pakistan and china diplomacy will be weakened due to India- US mutualisation in understanding because, both are facing common problems. It is another feather of Indias success cap to become a powerhouse of the Asia.
