Parliamentary Affairs Minister: The BJP is approaching our MPs
by MADAN GOPAL KAPOOR on Jul 19, 2008 12:31 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

My comments to a writer:
The Congress is seeking trust vote on Nuclear Deal issue alone and not on any other issue. Even a child knows that. Having said that, tell me on which front the Congress has failed? You would promptly reply 'Inflation'. Well, inflation is a world wide phenomenon caused due to reasons, amongst others, of high crude prices. In 2003 crude was at US$35 a barrel. It touched its peak at US$147 a barrel. This has nothing to do with increased demand. This is due to speculative buying. World consumption is only 80 billion barrels a day. There is matching production. But on NYMEX (New York Mercantile Exchange)800 billion barrels are traded every day. It is like a Company having only 3 Crore shares but the speculators place buying Order for 30 Crore shares. Where the shares would come from? A 'Buy' position of 800 billion barrels can never be met. So there are no sellers - only buyers.

This can be warded off by either having the buyer to pay huge margins or by bringing crude on spot trading. India has no say in that. Speculation is by Hedge funds who having lost big money in Sub-Prime Mortgage making it big in oil.

Every one knows spiralling oil prices have cascading effect.

Else, Congress has had a good account. The loan waiver of poor farmers, high economic growth, infra structure development, open economy, high foreign reserves - to name a few.

However, but for the constraints imposed on being in Left's company it could even more.

The Amarnath Shrine board controversy, quotas in iits and iims, suicides by Vidharbh farmers,
pacifying China, rise of attacks by terrorists, no arrests so far, quotas for muslims in AP,
Declaring that Ram does not exist, clemency for Afzal Guru, comparing Sarabjit to him,
U are very true, barring this, the Gov is really thinking 4 people.

Inflation is a worldwide phenomenon, true. Funnily it echoes a past Congress Prime Minister's famous phrase: Corruption is a global phenomenon! So, you better lump it.
Incidentally, a report from the US Energy Information Administration projects 2010 oil demand at 89.2 million barrels a day and not 80 billion, (a hundredfold increase) as you state.
Pray who prevents India from having a say in the
movements of oil futures and markets?
China could see its rising oil needs and planned far ahead to tie up supplies with African nations, Iran and Latin American countries.

We have the oldest stock exchange in Asia in Mumbai. Who has stopped it from becoming the most influential market in Asia? The Film Industry (Bollywood and South) could have been consciously forged into multi-billion industry; insurance-we have a lead over Asian countries; yet today we are swamped by MNC companies in India.

Mr. Madan Gopal, all the energy, will and resolve that the Congress is showing in toeing the US line, had this been utilised to develop our available strengths, think where we would have been.

Instead, you have a doormat of a Prime Minister, run like a puppet by an ambitious Italian, who chose to bank on the support of
a group obsessively stuck in a rigid, time-warped ideology. And then, when things hit the cieling, you manufacture a crisis, and say
this is a life and death issue. And, of course,
inflation is a worldwide phenomen.
