Karat committed a blunder in 1996 when he did not agree with the proposal to install Mr. Jyoti Basu as the Prime Minister. This paved the way for the 6-year BJP rule at the Center.
Karat is again committing a second blunder by withdrawing support to the UPA Government on the Nuclear Deal issue. This will pave the way for the installation of Mayawati as the Prime Minister with BJP's support. Such support post general election would be a short lived affair. History, as it happened in UP, would be repeated. Just as the BJP withdrew support to Mayawati's Government in U.P., it would do so at the Center. The result would be instability at the Center. The 'India Shining' story would then be a thing of the past.
Thus Karat's second blunder is going to cost the Nation a collosal loss. In my view progressive Comrades in CPM don't see eye to eye with Karat. At the hustings CPI-CPM would be the biggest losers. This would bring an end to Karat's political future. He personally would lose by a huge margin.

You shoud update your knowledge of politics. Karat was not the Generi Secretery of His party at that time and he had not obstructed Jyoti Basu from becoming prime minister. That was the decision of the party and Mr Basu was one of them.So stop misguiding the people for your filthy interests.

Hey, Mr Secular - how many riots happened when NDA was in power? And how many riots happened when CONG(I) was in power for decades? I hope you got your answer who is communal and who is secular.

It wa wrong on the part of Manmohan Singh to have signed the 123 agreement without consulting the allies. Whther Nuclear deal is good or not , the way UPA Govt is pushing the deal raises the doubt that ther is something fishy. Perhaps Nuclear Equipment suppliers at US are very desperate and Congress might have got kickbacks as it got from BOFORS. Karat just did what he said. From where the minority Govt got the guts to ignore the views of a Major ally like left?
