Somnath Chatterjee and his revolt against the party decision
by KSuresh Chander on Jul 17, 2008 02:32 PM   Permalink

It is wrong on the part of veteren astute politician like somnath chatterjee to revolt against party leadership on the lame excuse that he does not want to vote with BJP. If he had the same guts , he should have refused to accept the speaker's post since BJP has also supported it. These power hungry people once if they occupy the chair, don't want to vacate it. He should understand that he is not going to help BJP if he votes against the nuclear deal. On the contrary, this precarious situation arose only becuase of the stand taken by left. If he does not want to vote with BJP, LET HIM FIRST RESIGN THE POST OF SPEAKER AND NOT VOTE AGAINST THE DEAL. BY DOING THIS, HE NOT ONLY OBEYS THE PARTY DECISION OF RESIGNING FROM SPEAKER'S POST, BUT ALSO ACT AS PER HIS CONSCIENCE, IF HE HAS ONE. We have been thinking that members of the left are not power hungry and have principles, but by Somnath Chatterjee's threaten that he is going to resign from CPI(M), the fact is something else.
