This is a lengthy posting. Be patient and read all. India signed a declaration in 2005 allowing US to make a Law for India to follow. US passed Hyde Act which is the enabling act for the 123 agreement which we signed later chaining India stand still in all future nuclear related programmes. Discussions (Secret) for Nuclear Projects worth 40000MW is completed and waiting for signature in the opportune time. Shape of project and conditions incorporated are kept secret. These projects are slated to be completed by 2030 (10% of total). The availability of infrastructure in India for such huge and risky projects is doubtful. There is every possibility that prefabricated plants (Nuclear junks) will be brought here to reduce period of project's. The project cost is 3,20,000 Crores (appx) at the present rate and taking the inflation it will be 3 or 4 times more. We do not have enough capital to take up the project from our own resources for such large investments. We take foreign loan at the dictated conditions with several strings attached (Huge burden to the coming generations). The unit price for energy will be not less than Rs20/-. Taking into account the decommissioning cost ($3400million at the present cost-data per plant per year for 10-15 years) the unit cost will be more than Rs40/-.

contd.. We have the know-how for Uranium based technology. We sign the present N-deal for getting Uranium. Identified Uranium deposit (mainly Canada and Australia -50%) world over will last for 60 years from now at the present rate of use. By the time we commission our projects the availability of Uranium will near the end point. Then it will be the most expensive material which we can not afford to buy. But we can not sit idle after investing the huge capital. We will be forced to sign in 'dotted lines' to get Uranium. When the Uranium supply comes to an end within a few years what shall we do with plants? Mere waste of the huge capital invested and we have to find huge capital for decommissioning also.Nuclear waste disposal is costly. It is reported that it is to be kept safe for 10000 years. We have to buy the know-how at dictated conditions. Many of the nuclear plants world over is due for decommissioning. Briton started it at Sellafield(Commissioned in 1957) The protection against terror attack is another problem to be handled. Considering the present modus operandi of terrorists it is near impossible. It is in the media that we are near success in the Thorium based technology. Just five years from now. We have 60% of world Thorium deposit. Let us go slow and wait for the development of our own know how to produce energy from our own Thorium. Why this 'undue haste' to sign this deal? We are a democratic society. Decisions are taken based on some democratic values and principles. We have an elected Parliament. It is the prerogative of the Parliament to enter into any agreements with foreign countries. Here the deal was kept a secret from the Parliament. There were no in-depth discussions in the AICC and Council of Ministers and ruling partners. Just casual briefings which everyone listen and say YES. There were assurances from leaders that deal will be signed with consensus from various sections of people. But the government failed to arrange a discussion in the Parliament. How dare the government to go ahead with the deal? Where from they get the courage to sign a deal with hidden agenda in an undemocratic and deceitful way? ........... ' Most Western nations, save France and Japan, now avoid new nuclear power plants'. Everyone fear the problems connected with waste disposal. The government should be in the know about this.

sounds reasonable..though i couldn't comprehend aftre first three lines... what I say...if the project is going to benifit us in 2030 then we should not risk it..who knows what will happen by then? I mean...may be third world war? or 2012 doomsday? or any meteor hit the earth and half of lower India sunken into sea..or this global warming etc? so why to plan for so long? at least we will have liberty to make and use NUKES if third world war starts. I know I sound stupid...but still...don't laugh at me, otherwise I will tell your name to teacher.

If PV or Manmohan will think the same in 80-90's and avoid Ecconomic reforms in India, and the India will be like an african country or less than that by today. Please remember that in the history of a nation 20 or 25 years is a not a long time like in a life of an individual. Don't expect overnight benifits from any decision taken by governments.

Dr.Singh is the father of modern India,noone else deserve it,today we are proud to be an Indian tomorow if Dr.Singh could pass the deal we could do far better if not the next PM ownwords has to go to bejing for their kindness.
