Who si working against the deal ?
by PKN on Jul 10, 2008 03:27 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

The deal by any which way you look at it, seems OK and there is no reason for the great concern that the BJP and the Left is expressing!

But why is the Congress party handling it in this manner .

First there was the flip flop on whether they will go ahead or save thier government ?

Then there was suddenly a big move forward witha go-to-hell message to Karat and Co.

Then there was this commitment by Mukerjee that the government will go to IAEA only after winning a vote of confidence - but just hours later they go ahead .

The Congress seems to be the biggest enemy of the deal! This would only lead to more supporters of the deal getting worried that the Congress is hiding something !

Nobody knows what is the draft consist of... even Congress allies were kept out of the draft.. Communists never saw the draft... And whether Lalu sees it or not, it is inconsequential. BJP, on the other hand, was always kept out despite being a promenient Nationalist party... BJP has not seen a single word of the draft... Now Congress while lacking majority has gone to IAEA...

They had to rush to the IAEA ASAP. Pranab Mukherjee miscalculated when he told that they will approach IAEA only after winning a trust vote.If the deal needs to be crystallised they needed to move at break neck speed and as there was uncertainty around the Number Game for the voting, I think it made sense for Congress to proceed with IAEA now or never.I think UPA is confident that they will have the necessary numbers when it goes to the floor.BJP is unnecessarily creating a lot of hue and cry over this deal.Brajesh Mishra gave it a clean chit. They are opposing just for the heck of opposing it.They should realise that majority of the Indian population are in favour of the deal.
