do we treat our martyrs right?
by monica munjal on Jul 11, 2008 10:19 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

The shabby treatment meted out to those who sacrifice thier lives for the country is indeed sad. The politicians of course could not care less, and the administrative machinery is not worth writing about. Look at America, how they honor their soldiers . Only today one read in the newspaper that the familes of both Brigadier Mehta nd MrVenka, the IFS officer will e given lifetime financial assistance. What about the families of the two ITBP jawans, their life is worth only 5 lakhs each because they are poor and junior in rank. Meaning no disrepect to the former two gentlemen who lost their lives to the bomb blast, i would say that the others deserve equal treatment. We just can't go about blaming the authorities , the people at large are also at fault, how easily have we forgotten our martyrs from the Kargil war. The media too is more interested in the sensationalising murders, showing the mystic powers of holy men and don't have much to write or show about the examplary heroes of the country.
