Why this obsession with water ?!
by Sachin Purohit on Jul 10, 2008 11:20 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Why this obsession with water? Water is not a pre-requisite for life to exist anywhere in the universe. It is true that most of the species on earth require water for their existence. This need not always be true. In fact, as per scientific research, the first protein cells were formed at a time when earth was mainly abundant in hydrogen. An important corollary to this is that you can't reject possibility on any of the planets just because there is no water/oxygen or the temparature is too high or too low. Maybe there exist some microbes for whom water is as poisonous as cyanide is for us!

Hi Sachin,

I cannot agree with you more...

I mean water and oxygen are needed for a life form on this planet but may not be needed on other bodies...

Rite now, our planet has carbon based life form who knows before us there may have been a different life form or may be in future we may have a silicon based life form.

I think all the research organizations and the researchers come up with a research idea ... everyone jumps on the bandwagan and then try to get funding from govt and just fool everyone.

And also,
There might even be life forms in Earth that do not require water!! eg. rock
Astro biologists say, human bodies are made up of recycled materials from space, like dust/rock, in it's molecular form.
