If what is written in the article is so right, India would have started negotiations with all nations of NSG.
The very reason the Indian Govt is talking mostly to the US is that other nations in the NSG need the US permission even to pee.
If it hurt American business interests, only a stupid will believe that he or she can go ahead and get unlimited Uranium from other nations of NSG.
One word from the US is sufficient for Uranium rich countries like Australia to stop supplying Uranium unless India buys American made GE Turbines etc.
Indian PM is not an idiot to spend so much time talking to Bush & Rice if other nations can get away without the US approval.
Mere technical achievement of this deal without the US approval is like:

Kabeer your understanding of the issue is quite shallow.
You must understand that the NSG was established on the behest of the US as a reaction to Pokhran II and later to Pakistan's own blasts. Once the NSG was constituted uranium supplies, spare parts, technological transfers etc were tightened and even friendly countries like France & Russia were dissuaded to enter into deals with India.
Put anpther way, if there was no Pokhran II, they would be no NSG and no need for such a deal between India and the US.
The US remains the main influential member of NSG so much so unless you have a deal with them, no bi-lateral route can help. This is the reason why even China had to sign a deal with the US
Yes Russia offered us 4 reactors which we refused. Russia did so assuming the deal with NSG will come through. Further India did not want to antagonize the NSG before a deal was struck

Read carefully my post!
Am saying precisely the same.
Unless you get acceptance of the main member of the NSG , i.e the US, there is no point in getting the approval of others as even getting their approval without the US approval takes India to nowhere.
If the US approval is not so important Indian PM would have negotiated with other countries and get the NSG approval (majority sans the US) and would have protected his Govt too without antagonising the Left parties. The precise reason for his burning midnight oil with the US is, without the US approval NSG cant give a miiligram of Uranium.

If this deal helps India it will be great..if this hurts India..we can give back their Fuel...and get back to our Gobar plants...good luck folks
