There is a sense of unease among the fairly large section of the population on this deal. It is not the deal in itself BUT the manner in which MMSji has handled it. A person who has been subservient and said YES for almost everything many of which was due to political compulsions rather than in the interest of the Nation suddenly rakes up the courage on a deal which neither the Country nor the Parliament has little knowledge about. He promises to do the unthinkable by saying I will first ink the deal and then place this before the Parliament. In other words many foreign nationals would be aware of the fine print before our own Parliament or the people of this country become aware of this. Thereafter should there be some genuine reservation about certain clauses little can be done about this. Therefore MMSji take the opposition and your own countrymen into confidence or else you will fall into some elaborate trap laid by Bush. Why this unseemly hurry to do the deal before Bush is leaves? Is the Agreement not with America? Do you believe that this despot would do something good for us at the cost of America? How are other close allies of USA faring including the one next door? Americans are now bombing and raiding them and where is their sovereignty? Do you forget the Mush and Bush dialogue about being partners in the fight against terrorism? Where is that Partnership? Wake up MMSji or the country will never forgive you.

Rightly said Mr. Kuttaiah. The deal should first be discussed in Parliament and have approval of majority of parliamentarians including opposition before being approved. Also scientific community and legal experts should voice their opinion.

Assuming your apprehensions have an element of truth so what does the 1-2-3 Agreement (assuming the likes of Kuttiah has not bothered to read the agreement):
A. If the Agreement works in detriment to India we can Terminate under Article 14
1. Either Party shall have the right to terminate this Agreement prior to its expiration on one year's written notice to the other Party. A Party giving notice of termination shall provide the reasons for seeking such termination. The Agreement shall terminate one year from the date of the written notice, unless the notice has been withdrawn by the providing Party in writing prior to the date of termination.
B. If the Hyde Act is seriously implemented by the US, we can pass our own laws to neutralize the Hyde Act- Article 2
1. The Parties shall cooperate in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement. Each Party shall implement this Agreement in accordance with its respective applicable treaties, national laws, regulations, and license requirements concerning the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purpose
It is to remembered that the deal is only nuclear civilian cooperation.
The US will provide us technological transfers and uranium supplies to reactors for civilian purpose - for this they seek guarantees that enriched uranium will not be diverted for militrary purpose.
What we do with our own or other friendly countries (like Russia) technology or uranium is outside the purv
