DO WE REALLY NEED NUCLEAR ENERGY?
by vasudevan surendran on Jul 07, 2008 06:11 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The targeted 20,000 MW if generated through using coal, water or gas would cost around Rs.60,000/- Crores; while using imported nuclear reactors would cost us over Rs.2,00,000/- Crores. Countries in Europe like Germany, Spain, Sweden and Netherlands are opposed to the use of nuclear energy. Belgium which has been using nuclear energy for the past 40 years is now phasing it out !

Foreseeing the possible risks resulting from the accidents and the potential exposure to current and future generations to radioactive waste, do we really need Nuclear Energy now ??

We can also go in for thermo-electric power via coal, which is available aplenty in India. We need to ignore greenhouse gases for another decade. Let the Americans and Europeans do the CO2 cleaning process. We need energy right now.

Dont worry boss. Do remember that fossil fuel will snuff out life of this planet before nuclear accidents do. So opt for a slower death dear.
