Important Question
by fun guy on Jul 05, 2008 08:26 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Why the European counties and USA has not constructed many nuclear reactors for fulfilling more than 50% of their need?

Are they not having wealth?

Why do they pursue intensive other alternative energy research programs like biofuels, hydrogen fuel cells, etc?

because they are sensible.
US is pushing for nuclear energy in India but has not constructed a single plant in 30 years.

Kahne ko kuch and karne ko kuch aur

What do you mean by sensible?

because nuclear energy does not make sense when there are so many other sources of alternative energy

When the counties that constructed and operated the nuclear plant made historical neuclear disaster like Chernobyl and Three mile island.

How this country is going to operate the neuclear plant safely. I beleve lot of commuanl reservations are there in nuclear power plant recruitment also.

India has been operating Nuclear for past 35 years. The problem is we not being under agreement with NSG we can not fuel for these reactors even. In India we do not have reserves to sustain production of this energy. Thereby moving forward this is contemplated as one of alternatives

Also getting clearance from IAEA will mean IAEA will be inspectin nuclear plants and make sure they are safe to operate which is one of the requirements to be connected to NSG.

well the thing is will nuclear treaty be beneficial for India. If it is than India will be benfitted as this treaty is not with US but complete NSG group which cover UK, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, China, Australia and New Zealand. So even their talk is cheap and if get through NSG, I believe India will be profited.

IF things were of this sort why will Brajesh Mishra (national security under NDA govt) and APJ Kalam say that this deal is good for India?

McCain has put nuclear energy on his agenda ... the thing is that changing economic factors change decisions ... now that oil is expensive, nuclear power is being looked upon as an option .. the same thing was being touted as risky a decade earlier ... now the low cost of nuclear power versus high cost of oil is helping this change in decision making.

May u r missing couple of facts here. UK recently they will be building 40 new nuclear reactors in UK, USA in 2006 passed bill to start building more reactors in USA.

Biofuels is not good alternatively - environment wise (Will lead to large deforestration to grow crop) and biofuels is one of the reason why there is shortage of crop produce all over world as large % of crop is directed to biofuels; hydrogen cells are pretty expensive and at present is not viable economically;

Though as looking into future India is part of 6 countries consortium which is researching on ways to tame fusion reaction (fusing Hydrogen to form Helium and so on). They test reactor for same is under construction in France.

At present Nuclear is temprorary solution to fulfill our needs. And one things India is pretty deficient in energy production and if we do not increase sources of production in next upcoming years it will be difficult to sustain the infrastructure and improve it.

There is no silver bullet for energy crisis. Some of the proposed solutions are short term and some are long term. The concerns are both energy security and global warming. Biofules are meant for cleaner exhaust - for vehilces -which helps in fighting global warming.

Even for producing hydrogen, there needs to be electricity. You need to learn more before cribbing and even worse, accusing!
