The whole fiasco is due to putting politics above national interests. Each has a selfish interest & zero credibilty. The public is treated to a never ending serial, like in our TV mega-shows & the present electric bulbs that give out 90% heat & 10% light! We can switch between food but can we reduce energy consumption?
The crucial issues are never explained. 1. We are 80% dependent on imported oil, mostly from Gulf countries. Our necks are on the line. Looks like oil will run out or peak oil is reached. The days of cheap oil are truly over and oil is on an upward trend. 2. Nuclear energy can at most meet 10% of our needs. We still have to source uranium and that too will tag along with oil. Why should Australia etc not take advantage? Both are depleting and not renewable. The nuclear plants are now really expensive and fuel will also follow with PM Brown gunning for 1000 plants across the world. 3. US, Germany,Japan etc are investing billions in renewables like wind, solar etc. Also making break-throughs in fuel economy vehicles. A break-through in increasing efficiency by 50% in ten years will solve the energy problem. Oil is consumed at 85 million b/day and US with 5% population gorging over 20% with 50% imported. They have to bite the bullet soon and they still have it in them not only to create all the problems but to solve them! They know they can do that without putting up nuclear plants in their backyards!

World has has 442 Nuclear reactors and USA has 102 out of them. What else you want as a proof of US hold over Nuclear Technolgy. Compare that with 20 units in Russia.
Japan & France are better than Russia having around 50 reactors each.
Why do you feel that US is pusshing India. It is India's complusion that it does not have Uranium (in house)
Regarding Wind power >> India is world 4th largest on this route and growing. next 5 years India will be 2nd largest on electricity through Wind energy.
But Remember >> For wind power generated electricity , one has to have Strong wind blowing. That capacity is being fast consumed in India. Tamil Nadu has already utilised almost 100% of that! Tamil nadu is not close to coal pits, its Hydro power is under the scanner of Environmentalists , two Nuclear plants are coming at Kunalkundam ( Russian support ) But Russia can supply More uranium only if India goes through IAEA & NSG.

Ashok! You seems to be a BIG NUT! Getting URANIUM is not an ISSUE? You can throw money & get as much as you want, Read my comments earlier, Aus is almost ready to provide URANIUM to India, as to support their economy,as they are already supplying to China & Russia! BETTER IF YOU ALSO UPDATE YOURSELF!

Yr question "Why do you feel that US is pusshing India" is laughable. Don't u read newspapers or see TV? Even yesterday a member of an US delegation, told MMS to sign the deal immediately.

AUSTRALIA IS AGAINST HAVING NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS DESPITE OF ABUNDANT RESOURCES OF URANIUM! WE ALSO SHOULD LOOK FOR WIND SOLAR RENEWABLE ENERGY ALTERNATIVES, IN NEPAL JAPAN HAS INTRODUCED SOLAR LIGHTS IN VILLAGES USING LED ARRAYS TO LIGHT HOMES, WHY INDIA CAN'T DO THAT WITH THE INHOUSE OR BORROWED KNOW HOW FROM JAPAN??? There is a lack of WILL with these Politicians & Indian Scientist! USELESS BUGGERS!
